Emily Roebling, wife of John Roebling’s son. Took over after John Roebling and his son died. She had a big role and made the Brooklyn Bridge a success. She also ended up being the first person to go on the bridge by carriage When she stepped in to help create the bridge she stepped in as the ” first woman field engineer” and she also saw out the completion of the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge was complete in the year 1883. She also gave a speech on opening day of the bridge and people responded well to her speech. Today the bridge holds a plaque that is dedicated in memory of Emily, her husband, and her father in law, John Roebling.
